Why did I make this website?

Welcome! I am making this website as a way to get my thought experiments out there. To put my writings here, and who knows what else. I am doing it in this "lower tech" way to build my understanding of the fundementals, and to build it up in a method that alligns technology with ethics.

I think that the longer we can look aback at technologies influence in history, the more likley we can employ that technology more efficiently and morally. History is expiriements. I believe we (humanity) in teh information/industrial age discover and apply technology too quickly, without vetting those effects it may have. Well as I said, history is helpful for that.

I think we can see several milestones to technolgy, and the time period can be variable. Imagine the gamecube. Peoples thoughts on it will be different based upon when the write in its timeline. The gamecube was announced on August 25, 2000. It was released in North America November 18, 2001. The gamecube was dicontinued officially in North America in 2009 (although production stopped in 2007). When that was all done the gamecube had sold 21.74 million units.

We ccould then look at the whole lifecycle of the Gamecube. All of its variations, updates, hype, games, ect. This informs a lot. We can learn a lot. As time passes on, it has now been over 20 years since the system came oput, and almost 20 years since it was discontinued. I think that time, 20 years, is very important. For technology in the information age that makes something retro. I think on that horizon of time much of the internet is now over that mark.

I dont mean ARPANET, but the sort of internet that would have weebsites such as the one I am making now. On that horizon of time we saw the internet gain popularity and variety. Then we saw it become more regulated, more corporate. Variety went down and the negative effects of the internet are really starting to show on a generation. Millenials who adopted it, Gen Z who were raised in it, and Gen Alpha who has been submerged in it. The iPad kid, brain rot, doom scrolling, and the effect social media has had on us is known.

With that in mind, I think we can look at the lifecycle up to now and see the ebnefits and drawbacks of many parts of the internet. The harm of corparatization in teh later stage we have now. The negative effects of no cencorship in the early internet. Atleast we can start to see the ways we could have the benefits of the internet, from scratch, quicker, and with less drawbacks.

I think this website and the phenomena on the Person Internet or the Indi Web represents a way of starting that (especially as a representation of how the early internet operated, and informed by the effects of social media on us).
